Say it with roses!
Let’s speak the language of love, the language of – roses!
I wrote a brief overview of 21 rose fragrances to fall in love with, with mini-reviews. Believe me, I really had a hard time limiting myself to compose a bouquet of 21 roses, I could go on and on – at least that’s what I thought when I started thinking about it, some six months ago. I had to draw the line somewhere because composing this list took a lot of time.
21 rose fragrance…I still haven’t found one rose to rule them all, but that’s great because it keeps me constantly trying out new and different creations. SOTD, SOTN, for all moods and occasions, and during any season in a year. La Reine is always at my side: I’ve never waited for someone to make me a bed of roses. I make it myself and choose my own roses.
There are many ways of seeing things and ways of finding your personal interpretation. Yes, sometimes it’s a Rashomon. Words express thoughts, thoughts can suggest an interpretation but it also works the other way around. Nomen est omen, and choosing a name for perfume is one of the hardest things any perfumer or brand manager faces.
The same goes for the newest addition to Der Duft‘s line of fragrances, created by Prin Lomros: Act.
Anselm Skogstad‘s (founder of Der Duft) philosophy rests upon freedom of thought, freedom of interpretation, and aesthetic simplicity that doesn’t steer your attention from the most important thing: perfume. All their perfumes have names that you can interpret as you find fit, and here is my interpretation of Act!
Ever since I first heard the news about a new addition to the Francesca Bianchi‘s line of perfume, I had itchy fingers, impatient to try her most recent creation. And no wonder, since months felt like years at the time we all lost count of days in a week, and everything stopped almost overnight during March.
Sticky Fingers is available since late June, and now we’re talking!
Better said – rocking that patchouli, and here comes my complete review!
During the past 10 weeks, I had enough time to go through my perfume bottles and samples, making an inventory of a kind. I ended up playing like a little kid with perfume and desert sand, and just sniffing certain fragrances made me close my eyes: I traveled in time and space to deserts I long for, or the ones I’ve always dreamt about.
I wanted to share them with you, and maybe inspire you to do the same, so here are the 5 great fragrances for desert lovers! I wore them the most this spring! I’m not (never) saying that these are the TOP 5 ever or anything like that – you’ll make your own choices. I’ll try to explain why I singled out these five, and what makes them special.
The first thing Johanna Venables, founder and perfumer of NOT Perfumes, tells you about her creations is a warning. When you do NOT, keep in mind that:
“The Extracts are very concentrated and forbidden to wear on the skin due to the inclusion of possibly dangerous or irritating materials. Instead, it’s suggested they are used on a handkerchief, in a pomander or an aroma locket.
Some customers are tempted to wear them on the skin and report doing so, but they are very naughty people and do it entirely at their own risk.”
